Opening the Hand of Thought: Foundations of Zen Buddhist Practice
Monthly Book Discussion Group
Join us for a six-month exploration of Opening the Hand of Thought by Kosho Uchiyama, an introduction to Zen Buddhist practice.
As Jisho Warner writes in the preface, this book “goes directly to the heart of Zen practice, showing how Zen Buddhism can be a deep and life-sustaining activity. Uchiyama looks at what a person is, what a self is, how to develop a true self not separate from all things, one that can settle in peace in the midst of life.”
We will meet on the first Wednesday of each month, November through April, from 6:30–8:00 PM. Each session will cover 1–2 chapters (20–40 pages), with guiding questions for reflection and discussion provided a week in advance.
All are welcome, UU Wausau members, friends, and neighbors in the wider community (space for 10 participants).
