Religion and Peace in a Militaristic World – Guest Speaker, Dr. Ryan O’Leary

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point professor of philosophy returns to UU Wausau’s pulpit.

Many religions—even most—make deep teachings about love and compassion central to the spiritual path. If the goal of the religious life involves moral transformation, and if love and compassion are essential steps along that path, then it is important to ask what religion can teach us about peace and violence. We will consider two spiritual resources for peace-work—Christian and Buddhist ideals of loving-kindness—and their implications for religious pacifism in today’s militaristic world.
