SUMMARY:Creativity Matters
DESCRIPTION:Beginnings\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery creation begins somewhere: with a spark of an idea\, a moment of curiosity\, a first mark on a blank page\, or simply the willingness to try something new. Beginnings can feel exciting\, uncertain\, messy\, or even a little intimidating\, but they are also full of possibility. \n\n\n\nAt September’s Creativity Matters session\, we’ll explore the theme of beginnings through creativity. There is no need to have a plan or a perfect vision. Instead\, we’ll make space to experiment\, notice what emerges\, and reflect on the many ways new things come into being—whether it’s a work of art\, a new season of life\, a relationship\, or a deeper understanding of ourselves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options C\, D\, and E from the monthly Creativity Matters packet* \n\n\n\n\nOrigin Story Box: Each of us carries stories of where we come from\, the people and experiences that shaped us\, and the wisdom we carry forward. Create a personal origin story box using meaningful objects\, images\, and creative elements to visually explore your identity\, memories\, ancestors\, and the experiences that have helped make you who you are.\n\n\n\nBeginning Again: A Triptych of Forgiveness: A triptych uses three connected panels to tell a story\, with each piece contributing to a larger whole. Using the three stages of forgiveness (naming the harm\, doing the work of repair\, and reflecting on healing) and a medium of your choosing\, create a visual journey of a time when you experienced forgiveness\, transformation\, or the possibility of beginning again in love. \n\n\n\nThe Beginner’s Mind: Inspired by the Zen Buddhist practice of “beginner’s mind\,” this project invites you to approach creativity with curiosity\, openness\, and a willingness to try something new. DESCRIPTION:What do we actually mean by the word death? The word conjures up a host of vague and troubling thoughts and emotions. At the literal level\, we recognize death by such obvious physical signs as the heart stopping\, the body not moving\, the cessation of breathing\, or flat lines on a screen. But that is only a small fraction of what the word death evokes. Beyond that very literal understanding of death\, we have all sorts of theories of what death is really about and all sorts of hopes and fears about it. We need to take a deep look at those hopes and fears and ask ourselves what exactly is it that we fear\, and what exactly are those hopes? The point of such questioning is not to come up with some “correct” view of death. Instead\, the point is to examine our own assumptions and beliefs\, whatever they may be – Judy Lief \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat if talking about death could help us live more fully? \n\n\n\nDeath is something we all encounter\, yet our culture often encourages us to avoid talking about it. This program offers a space to do the opposite: to become more comfortable talking about mortality\, dying\, grief\, aging\, and the many questions that surround the end of life. \n\n\n\nThrough conversation\, reflection\, poetry\, guest speakers\, and practical exploration\, we’ll engage both the big questions and the practical ones \n\n\n\n\nWhat makes a good life—and a good death? \n\n\n\nHow do we want to approach aging and our own mortality? \n\n\n\nWhat do different traditions believe happens after we die? \n\n\n\nHow can we prepare for the end of life? \n\n\n\nWhat choices do we have about our care\, our bodies\, and our memorials?\n\n\n\n\nSessions balance philosophical and spiritual reflection with informational and logistical content\, along with humor and earnest regard for the topic of mortality. While this is not a support group\, it is a space to be curious\, share what you’re comfortable sharing\, learn from one another\, and have honest conversations about something we all have in common: being mortal. \n\n\n\nDate with Death Club is a secular\, non-dogmatic exploration of mortality in community. It is open to adults -both memebers and the wider public. No particular religious belief or experience is needed\, and you don’t need to attend every session. Come for a single conversation or join us throughout the series\, and drop-ins are welcome. DESCRIPTION:What do we actually mean by the word death? The word conjures up a host of vague and troubling thoughts and emotions. At the literal level\, we recognize death by such obvious physical signs as the heart stopping\, the body not moving\, the cessation of breathing\, or flat lines on a screen. But that is only a small fraction of what the word death evokes. Beyond that very literal understanding of death\, we have all sorts of theories of what death is really about and all sorts of hopes and fears about it. We need to take a deep look at those hopes and fears and ask ourselves what exactly is it that we fear\, and what exactly are those hopes? The point of such questioning is not to come up with some “correct” view of death. Instead\, the point is to examine our own assumptions and beliefs\, whatever they may be – Judy Lief \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat if talking about death could help us live more fully? \n\n\n\nDeath is something we all encounter\, yet our culture often encourages us to avoid talking about it. This program offers a space to do the opposite: to become more comfortable talking about mortality\, dying\, grief\, aging\, and the many questions that surround the end of life. \n\n\n\nThrough conversation\, reflection\, poetry\, guest speakers\, and practical exploration\, we’ll engage both the big questions and the practical ones \n\n\n\n\nWhat makes a good life—and a good death? \n\n\n\nHow do we want to approach aging and our own mortality? \n\n\n\nWhat do different traditions believe happens after we die? \n\n\n\nHow can we prepare for the end of life? \n\n\n\nWhat choices do we have about our care\, our bodies\, and our memorials?\n\n\n\n\nSessions balance philosophical and spiritual reflection with informational and logistical content\, along with humor and earnest regard for the topic of mortality. While this is not a support group\, it is a space to be curious\, share what you’re comfortable sharing\, learn from one another\, and have honest conversations about something we all have in common: being mortal. \n\n\n\nDate with Death Club is a secular\, non-dogmatic exploration of mortality in community. It is open to adults -both memebers and the wider public. No particular religious belief or experience is needed\, and you don’t need to attend every session. Come for a single conversation or join us throughout the series\, and drop-ins are welcome. Beyond that very literal understanding of death\, we have all sorts of theories of what death is really about and all sorts of hopes and fears about it. We need to take a deep look at those hopes and fears and ask ourselves what exactly is it that we fear\, and what exactly are those hopes? The point of such questioning is not to come up with some “correct” view of death. Instead\, the point is to examine our own assumptions and beliefs\, whatever they may be – Judy Lief \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat if talking about death could help us live more fully? \n\n\n\nDeath is something we all encounter\, yet our culture often encourages us to avoid talking about it. This program offers a space to do the opposite: to become more comfortable talking about mortality\, dying\, grief\, aging\, and the many questions that surround the end of life. \n\n\n\nThrough conversation\, reflection\, poetry\, guest speakers\, and practical exploration\, we’ll engage both the big questions and the practical ones \n\n\n\n\nWhat makes a good life—and a good death? \n\n\n\nHow do we want to approach aging and our own mortality? \n\n\n\nWhat do different traditions believe happens after we die? \n\n\n\nHow can we prepare for the end of life? \n\n\n\nWhat choices do we have about our care\, our bodies\, and our memorials?\n\n\n\n\nSessions balance philosophical and spiritual reflection with informational and logistical content\, along with humor and earnest regard for the topic of mortality. While this is not a support group\, it is a space to be curious\, share what you’re comfortable sharing\, learn from one another\, and have honest conversations about something we all have in common: being mortal. \n\n\n\nDate with Death Club is a secular\, non-dogmatic exploration of mortality in community. It is open to adults -both memebers and the wider public. No particular religious belief or experience is needed\, and you don’t need to attend every session. Come for a single conversation or join us throughout the series\, and drop-ins are welcome.
