What do we carry into the future? \n\n\n\nOctober 5: We’ll begin with Universalist theologian Hosea Ballou\, who insisted that authentic religion is not found in creeds or human inventions but in “the honest\, the pious\, the devotional heart.” \n\n\n\nOctober 12: We’ll explore the vision of the Transcendentalists\, who taught that outward forms may fade\, but the permanent in religion — truth\, justice\, and reverence for life — endures. \n\n\n\nOctober 26: We’ll turn closer to home\, looking at the significant contributions of Universalists and Unitarians in the Midwest. From frontier preachers to reformers who shaped civic and cultural life\, we’ll consider how their vision and persistence continue to ripple through our region and our tradition today.

DESCRIPTION:Through the Veil\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a peaceful morning of creativity and connection in our sun-filled Atrium. As autumn deepens and the veil between seasons grows thin\, we’ll turn our attention to memory and mystery: to what is seen and unseen\, what we carry forward\, and what quietly transforms beneath the surface. Choose a project that calls to you: a transparent collage\, a set of memory cards\, a blackout poem\, or a shadow box. Each invites you to explore the layered beauty of remembrance and imagination\, where stories\, symbols\, and traces of the past mingle with the light of what’s emerging. Like the season itself\, our art may be textured\, imperfect\, and full of wonder\, an offering to the shifting world around and within us.  \n\n\n\nOur Saturday Art Gatherings welcome artists\, crafters\, and creative beginners alike\, and are open to adults and teens. We’ll provide examples\, gentle guidance\, and a variety of supplies to help spark your process. On any given Sunday\, you will hear a sermon that stimulates your thinking about life\, opens a new perspective on the Bible\, or speaks to the state of the world with words of hope or healing. DESCRIPTION:Our Whole Lives Grades 7-9\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGrounded in the core values of self-worth\, responsibility\, justice\, and inclusivity\, Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a positive\, comprehensive sexuality education program that helps young people make informed\, responsible decisions about their relationships\, health\, and well-being. The 7th–9th grade curriculum creates a supportive space for youth to explore topics\, like: healthy relationships\, gender identity & sexual orientation\, sexual health\, consent\, and cultural influences on sexuality.  \n\n\n\nOWL encourages youth to actively explore and reflect on their own values\, attitudes\, and beliefs\, and through open dialogue and skill-building\, participants gain tools to make informed\, thoughtful\, and responsible decisions about their relationships\, sexual health\, and behavior. \n\n\n\nThis program is open to youth in grades 7–9 (or homeschool equivalent\, typically ages 12–14 as of September 1\, 2025) who have not previously taken OWL.  \n\n\n\nRegistration for this year’s OWL program is now closed. We will offer OWL 7-9th grade again during the 2026-2027 school year. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact the Director of Religious Education.

DESCRIPTION:Nurturing Gratitude\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNovember’s Creativity Matters theme is “Nurturing Gratitude.” We’ll explore how creativity can both express and deepen our sense of gratitude through art that celebrates the everyday and handmade offerings that carry appreciation beyond words. Together\, we’ll reflect on how creative practice helps us notice abundance\, transform small moments into gifts\, and let gratitude move through our hands and hearts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options B\, D\, and E from the monthly Creativity Matters packet*: \n\n\n\n\nA Sketched Gratitude List: Begin creating a visual gratitude list. Use images\, drawings\, or collage instead of words. Then\, take it home and keep adding to it each day for a week or two\, letting your sense of gratitude grow through what you create.\n\n\n\nFinding Your Favorite Color: Instead of heading outdoors\, take a “color walk” through our magazines and art materials. Choose your favorite color and look for it in images\, textures\, and patterns as a way to honor and tap into your gratitude for that color. Then use what you find to create something new\, like a collage or color wheel.\n\n\n\nArtistic Thank You Cards: Create a set of five handmade thank-you cards that express your gratitude through art as well as words. You might send them to friends and family\, or think beyond your circle and thank someone who rarely hears it\, like a neighbor\, librarian\, or mail carrier.\n\n\n\n\nDon’t have a copy of this month’s Creativity Matters guide? Think of it as a gentle space where your right brain gets to dance with your left. \n\n\n\nEach gathering offers time for sharing\, creating\, and simply being together. No experience is needed.
