SUMMARY:Volunteer Opportunity · Community Supper
DESCRIPTION:The First Presbyterian Church started serving free meals every Sunday beginning in 2006. Our church is one of 17 congregations and community groups that provide meals 52 times each year.  \n\n\n\nPost-pandemic\, meals have been distributed strictly through drive-up. Presbyterian Chuck Schlitz and his committee don’t see this service returning to the dining hall in the near future. \n\n\n\nOur church generously provides meals four times a year\, the first Sundays in October\, November\, February\, and March.  \n\n\n\nPast practice has been to make the food in someone’s home and assemble the food in containers at the church kitchen. Four to five people are needed on those Sundays to help with packing and distribution as people drive up. Typically\, about 100 meals are distributed. \n\n\n\nAny church member interested in helping with these meals can contact Marsha Fitzgerald at 715-298-1419 or 715-551-5618.  \n\n\n\nA special thanks to many of you who have been very generous in providing homemade desserts for distribution and who helped with distribution. \n\n\n\n*This post has been lightly edited for length

SUMMARY:Humanism: In Command or In Crisis?
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: The Rev. Dr. Michael Schuler\n\n\n\nWe welcome you to worship with us this Sunday at 10:30 AM! We rejoice and grow together through shared ministry\, meditation\, and music.  \n\n\n\nSermon description: According to the best-selling historian Yuval Noah Harari\, today’s average American has their foot in three ideological camps: nationalism\, free market capitalism\, and humanism.  The first two might seem obvious\, but the third? In this sermon I will address a critical question for our time\, the era of the Anthropocene.  Is humanism’s seemingly benign package of values at least partially responsible for some of the world’s most pressing problems or is it\, rather\, the source of its most promising solutions? To answer that question\, I will draw on the thought of an eclectic collection of commentators\, including life scientists\, public intellectuals\, technologists\, religious and philosophical writers\, novelists\, and even poets. In the end\, this wide-ranging survey may help the listener to determine whether humanism makes sense for them   \n\n\n\nAbout today’s guest minister: Michael A. Schuler served Unitarian Universalist congregations as senior minister for over forty years\, including thirty at the predominantly humanist First Unitarian Society of Madison\, Wisconsin. Under his leadership\, the society grew to become one of the largest in the Unitarian Universalist movement. He holds a PhD in the humanities from Florida State University and is also the author of “Making the Good Life Last: Four Keys to Sustainable living” (Berrett-Kohler\, 2009) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Month’s Ministry Partner\n\n\n\nOn the third weekend of each month\, our Sunday collection is given to a selected Ministry Partner who puts our mission statement into practice.  \n\n\n\nAs a congregation\, we continue to live our vision by volunteering at and donating to these influential community organizations and causes. \n\n\n\nThis month\, we’re proud to donate our Community Focus Collection to TBA. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Us On Sundays For Services That Inform & Inspire\n\n\n\nSermons at UU Wausau encompass many topics\, but always with the intent of cultivating dialogue and fostering growth.
