DESCRIPTION:This summer\, our Religious Education program brings the spirit of forest school and gratitude for the interdependent web of life right to our church grounds. Through hands-on play\, nature-based activities\, and creative exploration\, kids will deepen their connection to the natural world\, even in the middle of the city. \n\n\n\nEach session encourages children to slow down\, notice the life all around them\, and practice care\, cooperation\, and curiosity. We’ll explore\, build\, imagine\, and play – nurturing both wonder and community along the way. \n\n\n\nWe’ll gather in the lobby before heading outside. Please dress for the weather (sunscreen\, hats\, light jackets for cool mornings\, etc.). In case of rain or extreme heat\, we’ll bring the fun indoors. \n\n\n\nThis program is designed for children in Preschool through 5th grade\, but older kids are welcome too. All are invited to grow\, play\, and connect with the world around them!

Listening to seaweed\, I suggest\, challenges our imagined separation from nature and invites us into an ethics of attunement and interdependence. \n\n\n\nDr. Sundberg is the daughter of Jim Sundberg\, a member of the church.

DESCRIPTION:Building Belonging\n\n\n\nSeptember’s Creativity Matters theme is “Building Belonging.” Together\, we’ll explore how creativity helps us feel at home within ourselves and connect more deeply with others. Belonging invites us to show up as our full selves\, share our stories\, and create connections that nurture both self-understanding and community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options B\, D\, and E from the monthly Creativity Matters packet*: \n\n\n\n\nThe Selves You Allow to Belong and the Selves You Don’t: Use the medium of your choice to creatively represent the parts of your personality you’ve welcomed in\, as well as the parts you’ve kept at bay\, ignored\, or hidden. This exercise is less about “getting it right” and more about practicing self-compassion and recognizing the aspects of yourself that could use a little more acceptance and care.\n\n\n\nAn Article of Clothing That You Belonged To: Clothes we belong to are the ones that help us hold close the sweet and special times of our lives. Choose a piece of clothing from your past that you belonged to\, and use the medium of your choice to bring it back to life\, capturing the feelings\, colors\, and moments it represents. \n\n\n\nThe Places Where We Experience Sacred Belonging: We all have special places where the world feels sacred and we experience a sense of belonging and connection. For this exercise\, you’re invited to create your own piece\, inspired by Taylor’s “placemaking” series of circular watercolors with hand-drawn elements.
