SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Lessons from Listening to Sargasso – led by Juanita Sundberg\, Associate Professor\, Department of Geography\, University of British Columbia\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn this presentation\, I offer lessons learned from listening to sargasso\, a seaweed currently landing in unprecedented volumes on Caribbean shores. Listening to seaweed\, I suggest\, challenges our imagined separation from nature and invites us into an ethics of attunement and interdependence. \n\n\n\nDr. Sundberg is the daughter of Jim Sundberg\, a member of the church.

DESCRIPTION:Learning to Bless What We Cannot Fix – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn a world quick to offer answers\, what do we do with the wounds that can’t be healed and the problems that can’t be solved? This Sunday we’ll reflect on the quiet\, transformative practice of blessing — of seeing and naming goodness even when nothing can be “fixed.”

DESCRIPTION:The Mercy of Being Forgotten – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe fear being forgotten\, and yet sometimes forgetting is mercy itself. History\, God\, or the universe holds more than we can carry—the good\, the bad\, and the unfinished. What does it mean to live knowing that we are part of a story far larger than our memory can hold? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Focus Collection (CFC)\n\n\n\nOn the third weekend of each month (September – May)\, our Sunday collection is given to a pre-selected Ministry Partner\, organization\, or cause that puts our values into practice. This morning’s offering will be donated to Healthy Opportunities for Latin Americans (HOLA) (https://holawisc.org) and we will have a representative of HOLA speaking at today’s service. To donate online\, text FirstUUWausau to 73256 or visit tinyurl.com/givetouuwausau. \n\n\n\nAbout HOLA\n\n\n\nSince their founding 2 years ago\, HOLA has served as a vital bridge for Latino families in 8 counties in Wisconsin improving access to healthcare\, legal services\, education\, and community resources. With your support\, they continue providing economic opportunity\, civic engagement\, and cultural connection.

SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Life Believing In Itself – The Rev. Mark Richards\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe are a nation divided by fear. Some say it is an existential fear of those who have a fundamentally different understanding of truth and reality.  Others say it is a manufactured fear\, generated by those seeking power playing on the unconscious prejudices of a distracted people.  We will explore the various relationships that exist for us in the personal\, social\, and political dimensions.  We’ll take a look at where our current divisions may have originated.  We wrap it all up with a reflection on how UU values can become a source for resolving our differences and bringing our nation back to its highest aspirations. \n\n\n\nRev. Mark Richards calls himself a wondering wanderer after seeing much of the world through a business lens.  His wandering landed him in Door County providing chaplain services for a local hospice agency.  After a few years settling in\, Mark’s social justice senses were revived by an offer to work with the Wisconsin UU State Action Network. Now serving as its President\, Mark is promoting UU values throughout Wisconsin to bring about our aspiration of a community that nourishes the spirit of every person.. Mark and Christina live in Egg Harbor and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

DESCRIPTION:October Worship Series: What We Inherit\, What We Carry Forward: Hosea Ballou – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis October\, we’ll reflect on some of the people and movements whose courage and conviction helped shape the soul of our tradition. They were not perfect\, yet they were faithful — faithful to love\, to truth\, and to the hope of a more just world. Their lives invite us to ask: What do we inherit from them? What do we carry into the future? \n\n\n\nOctober 5: We’ll begin with Universalist theologian Hosea Ballou\, who insisted that authentic religion is not found in creeds or human inventions but in “the honest\, the pious\, the devotional heart.” \n\n\n\nOctober 12: We’ll explore the vision of the Transcendentalists\, who taught that outward forms may fade\, but the permanent in religion — truth\, justice\, and reverence for life — endures. \n\n\n\nOctober 26: We’ll turn closer to home\, looking at the significant contributions of Universalists and Unitarians in the Midwest. From frontier preachers to reformers who shaped civic and cultural life\, we’ll consider how their vision and persistence continue to ripple through our region and our tradition today.

DESCRIPTION:Where is the Wisdom We Have Lost in Knowledge? – The Rev. Michael Schuler\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThose words were originally penned by T.S. Eliot for his poem “The Rock.”  They are quite old\, but more relevant today I would argue than they were when first composed (almost ninety years ago).   \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Focus Collection (CFC)\n\n\n\nOn the third weekend of each month (September – May)\, our Sunday collection is given to a pre-selected Ministry Partner\, organization\, or cause that puts our values into practice. \n\n\n\nThis Sunday\, our collection will go to the Wausau Free Clinic. Our speaker will be Dr. Jeffrey Oswald\, who is the Medical Director of the Wausau Free Clinic. \n\n\n\nThe Wausau Free Clinic was started in 2018 in partnership with The First Presbyterian Church by Jeff Oswald\, MD\, Jeffrey Todd\, MS\, and Paula Vogt\, RN\, along with community volunteers. Although it has operated out of several locations over the years it has been located at the Community Partners Campus on Grand Ave.\, Wausau since December of 2022. \n\n\n\nThe mission continues to be offering no-charge high quality primary care services to low income\, uninsured residents of the area using highly qualified volunteers. From the 2024 annual report the patient panel is over 1400 individuals with 6000 hours of volunteer services have been provided valued at $500\,000\, \n\n\n\nCurrently the clinic has achieved “Silver Standards of Excellence” certification from the Wisconsin association of Free and Charitable Clinics and the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics.

Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat if generosity begins not with reaching down to help someone else\, but with recognizing how each of us lives on both sides of the story?  We’re all someone’s beloved and someone’s burden; someone’s “yes”\, and someone’s “not today.”  As we move from Thanksgiving into the season of giving\, we’ll explore how generosity grows when we tell the truth about our mixed motives\, our limits\, and the parts of ourselves – and others – we’d rather not claim. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJoin Us On Sundays For Services That Inform & Inspire\n\n\n\nSermons at UU Wausau encompass many topics\, but always with the intent of cultivating dialogue and fostering growth. DESCRIPTION:Packing Light – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe all carry things forward—some by choice\, some by habit\, some because we’ve forgotten they’re even there. SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:What the Dark is For – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJanuary brings short days\, long nights\, and the sense that not much is happening—outside or inside. But winter is not a mistake in the system. In this service we’ll explore the spiritual work of dormancy and rest\, and how periods that look unproductive may actually be the seasons when roots deepen and life quietly repairs itself. This is a sermon for anyone who feels tired\, behind\, or not particularly “inspired” right now.

SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Reflections on Martin Luther King Jr. – led by the Religious Service Committee members Sheryl Hemp\, Mary Testin\, and Randy Jefferson\n\n\n\nPersonal thoughts on the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by members of the Religious Services Committee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Month’s Ministry Partner\n\n\n\nOn the third weekend of each month\, our Sunday collection is given to a selected Ministry Partner who puts our mission statement into practice. As a congregation\, we continue to live our vision by volunteering at and donating to these influential community organizations and causes. \n\n\n\nThis month\, we’re proud to donate our Community Focus Collection to the Marathon County Humane Society. \n\n\n\nThe Humane Society of Marathon County (HSMC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been established in the Wausau area since the 19560’s. The vision of HSMC is a cruelty free community enriched by the special bond between people and animals. Our mission is to inspire and engage the community to end animal suffering and commit to responsible pet ownership. We achieve that mission by visiting schools to educate children on responsible pet ownership\, hosting low cost vaccine clinics on a monthly basis\, offering discounted microchipping services\, hosting fundraisers\, making our shelter pets visible in the community and more.  On average the shelter serves 1\,400 animals per year and we are always looking for creative opportunities to enhance our life saving efforts and bring the public to our shelter. \n\n\n\nDiscover more about their work here.

SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Starting Over Without Starting from Scratch\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe like to talk about “fresh starts\,” as if life came with a reset button. But most of the time we don’t begin again from a blank page—we begin again with our history\, our mistakes\, our loves\, our scars. This sermon considers what it means to start over without erasing the past\, and how healing often comes not from replacing our stories\, but from learning to carry them differently.

DESCRIPTION:How We Become Teachable Again – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMost of us don’t resist change because we’re stubborn. We resist it because we’re tired\, afraid\, or bruised by life. But the soul can calcify.
