How do we get in touch with a deeper and truer hope which can sustain us?Melody Moberg (she/her) is a Unitarian Universalist ministerial candidate and a spiritual director. She graduated with a Master of Divinity from Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry in 2022 and previously served as a UU religious educator. While this is usually a slower time of year for arrivals\, this year they are coming early like our spring weather. You can get an update on what’s happening as well as a very grateful thank you for all your past and future support. DESCRIPTION:Is Your Soul Frostbitten?  – The Rev. Brian Mason\, preaching\n\n\n\nWhen resigning his pastorate\, Ralph Waldo Emerson quipped that Unitarianism was like a “cold corpse.” The rub being that it was too individualistic and intellectual. That approach may have benefited the individual\, but not the community\, especially communities concerned about carrying on our religious tradition. This Sunday we’ll look for warmth where Emerson didn’t. We’ll also consider Unitarian Universalism’s spiritual depth through the life and ministry of William Greenleaf Eliot\, a lesser-known figure in our history\, and see about recovering our spirituality. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis Month’s Ministry Partner\n\n\n\nOn the third weekend of each month\, our Sunday collection is given to a selected Ministry Partner who puts our mission statement into practice.  \n\n\n\nAs a congregation\, we continue to live our vision by volunteering at and donating to these influential community organizations and causes. \n\n\n\nThis month\, we’re proud to donate our Community Focus Collection to Children’s Wisconsin. \n\n\n\n\nChildren’s Wisconsin offers many programs that help support parents and caregivers of children. All programs are free and voluntary. They include the Family Resource Center\, a Warm Line\, Play and Learn\, Family Events\, and Start Right Healthy Families. The Start Right program is  focused on children ages 1-5 years old. We’ll learn how they help families get their young ones off to a good start. The speaker on February 18 will be Alissa Johnson from Start Right\, Marathon County\, Children’s Wisconsin.

We rejoice and grow together through shared ministry\, meditation\, and music.  \n\n\n\nSermon description: According to the best-selling historian Yuval Noah Harari\, today’s average American has their foot in three ideological camps: nationalism\, free market capitalism\, and humanism.  The first two might seem obvious\, but the third? In this sermon I will address a critical question for our time\, the era of the Anthropocene.  Is humanism’s seemingly benign package of values at least partially responsible for some of the world’s most pressing problems or is it\, rather\, the source of its most promising solutions? To answer that question\, I will draw on the thought of an eclectic collection of commentators\, including life scientists\, public intellectuals\, technologists\, religious and philosophical writers\, novelists\, and even poets. In the end\, this wide-ranging survey may help the listener to determine whether humanism makes sense for them   \n\n\n\nAbout today’s guest minister: Michael A. Schuler served Unitarian Universalist congregations as senior minister for over forty years\, including thirty at the predominantly humanist First Unitarian Society of Madison\, Wisconsin. Under his leadership\, the society grew to become one of the largest in the Unitarian Universalist movement.
