SUMMARY:Creativity Matters
DESCRIPTION:Beginnings\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery creation begins somewhere: with a spark of an idea\, a moment of curiosity\, a first mark on a blank page\, or simply the willingness to try something new. Beginnings can feel exciting\, uncertain\, messy\, or even a little intimidating\, but they are also full of possibility. \n\n\n\nAt September’s Creativity Matters session\, we’ll explore the theme of beginnings through creativity. There is no need to have a plan or a perfect vision. Instead\, we’ll make space to experiment\, notice what emerges\, and reflect on the many ways new things come into being—whether it’s a work of art\, a new season of life\, a relationship\, or a deeper understanding of ourselves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options C\, D\, and E from the monthly Creativity Matters packet* \n\n\n\n\nOrigin Story Box: Each of us carries stories of where we come from\, the people and experiences that shaped us\, and the wisdom we carry forward. Create a personal origin story box using meaningful objects\, images\, and creative elements to visually explore your identity\, memories\, ancestors\, and the experiences that have helped make you who you are.\n\n\n\nBeginning Again: A Triptych of Forgiveness: A triptych uses three connected panels to tell a story\, with each piece contributing to a larger whole. Using the three stages of forgiveness (naming the harm\, doing the work of repair\, and reflecting on healing) and a medium of your choosing\, create a visual journey of a time when you experienced forgiveness\, transformation\, or the possibility of beginning again in love. \n\n\n\nThe Beginner’s Mind: Inspired by the Zen Buddhist practice of “beginner’s mind\,” this project invites you to approach creativity with curiosity\, openness\, and a willingness to try something new. Experiment with a new medium\, style\, material\, or creative process as you let go of expectations and discover what emerges.\n\n\n\n\nDon’t have a copy of this month’s Creativity Matters guide? Sign up to be part of the mailing list or reach out to our Director of Religious Education for a copy! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is Creativity Matters?\n\n\n\nOur Creativity Matters group helps community members engage in monthly themes and explore spiritual growth through creative expression. \n\n\n\nIt’s all about allowing our intuition and imagination to guide us\, not just our logic and reflective minds. Think of it as making room for your right brain to dance with your left brain. \n\n\n\nCreativity Matters is a teen and adult group designed for everyone — no experience or artistic skill is required! Just bring a playful spirit and adventurous attitude.

SUMMARY:Date with Death Club
DESCRIPTION:What do we actually mean by the word death? The word conjures up a host of vague and troubling thoughts and emotions. At the literal level\, we recognize death by such obvious physical signs as the heart stopping\, the body not moving\, the cessation of breathing\, or flat lines on a screen. But that is only a small fraction of what the word death evokes. Beyond that very literal understanding of death\, we have all sorts of theories of what death is really about and all sorts of hopes and fears about it. We need to take a deep look at those hopes and fears and ask ourselves what exactly is it that we fear\, and what exactly are those hopes? The point of such questioning is not to come up with some “correct” view of death. Instead\, the point is to examine our own assumptions and beliefs\, whatever they may be – Judy Lief \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat if talking about death could help us live more fully? \n\n\n\nDeath is something we all encounter\, yet our culture often encourages us to avoid talking about it. This program offers a space to do the opposite: to become more comfortable talking about mortality\, dying\, grief\, aging\, and the many questions that surround the end of life. \n\n\n\nThrough conversation\, reflection\, poetry\, guest speakers\, and practical exploration\, we’ll engage both the big questions and the practical ones \n\n\n\n\nWhat makes a good life—and a good death? \n\n\n\nHow do we want to approach aging and our own mortality? \n\n\n\nWhat do different traditions believe happens after we die? \n\n\n\nHow can we prepare for the end of life? \n\n\n\nWhat choices do we have about our care\, our bodies\, and our memorials?\n\n\n\n\nSessions balance philosophical and spiritual reflection with informational and logistical content\, along with humor and earnest regard for the topic of mortality. While this is not a support group\, it is a space to be curious\, share what you’re comfortable sharing\, learn from one another\, and have honest conversations about something we all have in common: being mortal. \n\n\n\nDate with Death Club is a secular\, non-dogmatic exploration of mortality in community. It is open to adults -both memebers and the wider public. No particular religious belief or experience is needed\, and you don’t need to attend every session. Come for a single conversation or join us throughout the series\, and drop-ins are welcome. However\, we strongly encourage everyone to attend the first session as a way to begin getting comfortable talking about death and to establish a foundation for the conversations we’ll share throughout the program. \n\n\n\nBy facing the reality of our mortality\, we may discover new possibilities for living a more intentional and meaningful life. \n\n\n\nSession Themes: \n\n\n\n\n\nSep 10: Getting Comfortable with Death Talk\n\n\n\nSep 24: Dying\, Death\, Poetry\n\n\n\nOct 8: Good Life & Good Death\n\n\n\nOct 22: Resistance & Acceptance: The Mortal Dance\n\n\n\nNov 12: Aging: Better Than the Alternative\n\n\n\nDec 10: Grief: Loving & Losing\, Learning & Living\n\n\n\nJan 14: Afterlife / Afterlives\n\n\n\nJan 28: Facing Extinction: Processing Eco-Grief\n\n\n\nFeb 11: Owning Your Dying\n\n\n\nFeb 25: Hospice\, Palliative Care\, & End-of-Life Documents\, Oh My!\n\n\n\nMar 11: Medical Aid in Dying / Death with Dignity\n\n\n\nApr 8: What to Do with a Dead Body?\n\n\n\nApr 22: Planning Your Own Memorial Service\n\n\n\nMay 13: Writing Your Own Obituary\n\n\n\n\n\n*Please note: there are no sessions on November 26\, December 24\, or March 25.

SUMMARY:Creativity Matters
DESCRIPTION:Courage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreativity is an act of courage. Every time we make something new\, we take a risk by stepping into uncertainty\, trying something we haven’t tried before\, and allowing ourselves to be seen through what we create. But creativity also helps us practice courage. When we give ourselves permission to experiment\, make mistakes\, and follow our curiosity\, we build the confidence to approach other parts of our lives with greater openness and resilience. At October’s Creativity Matters gathering\, we’ll explore the connection between courage and creativity through hands-on creative practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options B\, C\, and D from the monthly Creativity Matters packet* \n\n\n\n\nSuperhero Self-Portrait: Create a superhero version of yourself that highlights the qualities\, strengths\, and courage you carry within. Explore your personal “superpowers” through colors\, symbols\, words\, and images that represent who you are and who you hope to become.\n\n\n\nCourage Cards: Create courage cards with uplifting images\, colors\, and words of encouragement. Make one to remind yourself of your own courage and one to share with someone who could use a little extra encouragement.\n\n\n\nRole Model Collage: Create a collage honoring a person or people who inspire courage in your life. Explore the qualities they represent and the symbols\, images\, or objects that remind you of the courage they encourage in you.\n\n\n\n\nDon’t have a copy of this month’s Creativity Matters guide? Sign up to be part of the mailing list or reach out to our Director of Religious Education for a copy! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is Creativity Matters?\n\n\n\nOur Creativity Matters group helps community members engage in monthly themes and explore spiritual growth through creative expression. \n\n\n\nIt’s all about allowing our intuition and imagination to guide us\, not just our logic and reflective minds. Think of it as making room for your right brain to dance with your left brain. \n\n\n\nCreativity Matters is a high school and adult group designed for everyone — no experience or artistic skill is required!

It is open to adults -both members and the wider public. \n\n\n\nSession Themes: \n\n\n\n\n\nSep 10: Getting Comfortable with Death Talk\n\n\n\nSep 24: Dying\, Death\, Poetry\n\n\n\nOct 8: Good Life & Good Death\n\n\n\nOct 22: Resistance & Acceptance: The Mortal Dance\n\n\n\nNov 12: Aging: Better Than the Alternative\n\n\n\nDec 10: Grief: Loving & Losing\, Learning & Living\n\n\n\nJan 14: Afterlife / Afterlives\n\n\n\nJan 28: Facing Extinction: Processing Eco-Grief\n\n\n\nFeb 11: Owning Your Dying\n\n\n\nFeb 25: Hospice\, Palliative Care\, & End-of-Life Documents\, Oh My!\n\n\n\nMar 11: Medical Aid in Dying / Death with Dignity\n\n\n\nApr 8: What to Do with a Dead Body?\n\n\n\nApr 22: Planning Your Own Memorial Service\n\n\n\nMay 13: Writing Your Own Obituary\n\n\n\n\n\nSee session descriptions here. \n\n\n\n*Please note: there are no sessions on November 26\, December 24\, or March 25.

SUMMARY:Creativity Matters
DESCRIPTION:Healing\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHealing is rarely something that simply happens to us. More often\, it is something we participate in\, through small acts of courage\, imagination\, connection\, and care. \n\n\n\nAt November’s Creativity Matters session\, we’ll explore how creativity can become a pathway to healing\, and as we create\, we’ll make space for the many ways creativity invites healing\, renewal\, and transformation in our lives and in our community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProject Options\n\n\n\nWe will have supplies for Project Options A\, C\, and F from the monthly Creativity Matters packet* \n\n\n\n\nBody Mapping is a creative practice that invites us to listen to our bodies and honor the stories they carry. Using drawing\, painting\, collage\, or other materials\, you’ll create a body map that reflects experiences of both hurt and healing\, exploring the resilience\, wisdom\, and memories held within. \n\n\n\nZentangle is a meditative drawing practice that uses repeated patterns to encourage mindfulness\, creative expression\, and relaxation. As you create\, you’ll have an opportunity to slow down\, focus on the present moment\, and experience the calming\, healing benefits of the process.\n\n\n\nThe Places That Heal You invites you to creatively honor a place that has brought you comfort\, belonging\, strength\, or renewal. Using any medium\, reflect on the landscapes\, rooms\, or corners of the world that have held your story and shaped your healing.\n\n\n\n\nDon’t have a copy of this month’s Creativity Matters guide?

It is open to adults -both members and the wider public. \n\n\n\nSession Themes: \n\n\n\n\n\nSep 10: Getting Comfortable with Death Talk\n\n\n\nSep 24: Dying\, Death\, Poetry\n\n\n\nOct 8: Good Life & Good Death\n\n\n\nOct 22: Resistance & Acceptance: The Mortal Dance\n\n\n\nNov 12: Aging: Better Than the Alternative\n\n\n\nDec 10: Grief: Loving & Losing\, Learning & Living\n\n\n\nJan 14: Afterlife / Afterlives\n\n\n\nJan 28: Facing Extinction: Processing Eco-Grief\n\n\n\nFeb 11: Owning Your Dying\n\n\n\nFeb 25: Hospice\, Palliative Care\, & End-of-Life Documents\, Oh My!\n\n\n\nMar 11: Medical Aid in Dying / Death with Dignity\n\n\n\nApr 8: What to Do with a Dead Body?\n\n\n\nApr 22: Planning Your Own Memorial Service\n\n\n\nMay 13: Writing Your Own Obituary\n\n\n\n\n\nSee session descriptions here. \n\n\n\n*Please note: there are no sessions on November 26\, December 24\, or March 25.

It is open to adults -both members and the wider public. \n\n\n\nSession Themes: \n\n\n\n\n\nSep 10: Getting Comfortable with Death Talk\n\n\n\nSep 24: Dying\, Death\, Poetry\n\n\n\nOct 8: Good Life & Good Death\n\n\n\nOct 22: Resistance & Acceptance: The Mortal Dance\n\n\n\nNov 12: Aging: Better Than the Alternative\n\n\n\nDec 10: Grief: Loving & Losing\, Learning & Living\n\n\n\nJan 14: Afterlife / Afterlives\n\n\n\nJan 28: Facing Extinction: Processing Eco-Grief\n\n\n\nFeb 11: Owning Your Dying\n\n\n\nFeb 25: Hospice\, Palliative Care\, & End-of-Life Documents\, Oh My!\n\n\n\nMar 11: Medical Aid in Dying / Death with Dignity\n\n\n\nApr 8: What to Do with a Dead Body?\n\n\n\nApr 22: Planning Your Own Memorial Service\n\n\n\nMay 13: Writing Your Own Obituary\n\n\n\n\n\nSee session descriptions here. \n\n\n\n*Please note: there are no sessions on November 26\, December 24\, or March 25.
