SUMMARY:Children's Religious Education
DESCRIPTION:This year\, our Children’s RE group is blending our play-based model with Holy Troublemakers & Unconventional Saints\, an illustrated collection by Daneen Akers that highlights people from diverse faiths who have stood up for justice and love\, even when it meant challenging the status quo. \n\n\n\nWe’ll learn about inspiring figures like: \n\n\n\n\nBayard Rustin\n\n\n\nFred Rogers\n\n\n\nValarie Kaur\n\n\n\nKaitlin Curtice\n\n\n\nThich Nhat Hanh\n\n\n\nRumi\n\n\n\nMary Oliver\n\n\n\n\nAnd we’ll be adding our own Unitarian\, Universalist\, and Unitarian Universalist ancestors\, including Norbert Čapek and Francis Ellen Watkins Harper. \n\n\n\nEach Sunday\, elementary school-aged participants will discover one of these holy troublemakers and then explore the week’s themes in our open play spaces\, including an art room\, contemplation room\, make-believe room\, game area\, nature space\, music space\, and makerspace.

SUMMARY:Youth Religious Education
DESCRIPTION:C2: Coming of Age Cafe\n\n\n\nC2 is a unique coming-of-age space designed to honor youth choice and support them in taking ownership of their spiritual paths\, C2 is a space where youth can connect\, collaborate\, create\, and rest while exploring the deep questions of identity\, belonging\, and purpose. Each week\, the group will be invited to explore questions such as: \n\n\n\n\nHow do I honor the child I once was…and will carry with me?\n\n\n\nWhat are the labels and expectations our families put on us?\n\n\n\nWhere is the line between belonging and fitting in?\n\n\n\nWhat privileges belong to me\, and how do I use them to support the belonging of others?\n\n\n\nHow do I honor where I come from?\n\n\n\nHow do I celebrate the unique me?\n\n\n\nHow do I prevent labels from hemming me in?\n\n\n\nWhat are my core values?\n\n\n\nWhat are my passions and joys?\n\n\n\nWho do I hope to become?\n\n\n\nHow do we disagree without destroying relationships?\n\n\n\nHow do I resist “me-ism” and honor our intertwined fates?\n\n\n\n\nThen youth can choose how they’d like to go deeper with that week’s theme. Whether they choose to play a game\, make art\, enjoy a snack\, quietly reflect\, or simply relax\, C2 is an intentional time for youth to nurture their well-being\, explore those big coming-of-age questions as they move from childhood to adolescence\, and discover the answers together.

SUMMARY:Sunday Worship And Glorified Coffee Hour
DESCRIPTION:Barely Organized Religion—Unitarianism\, 200 Years Later\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPicture it: Boston\, 1825. A room full of clergy\, too many opinions\, not enough snacks\, and one big theological identity crisis. Out of that chaos came a faith that still insists love matters more than dogma\, and justice more than perfection. Join us for a sermon that’s part history\, part comedy\, and a full-hearted celebration of 200 years of Unitarianism.

SUMMARY:Learn. Practice. Share.
DESCRIPTION:A Three-Session Meditation & Mindfulness Community\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn times of uncertainty – whether facing personal challenges\, transitions\, or the shifting landscape of our world – we can come together as a community to build resilience. Mindfulness and meditation offer powerful tools to navigate these moments with clarity and compassion. \n\n\n\nIn our second session\, we’ll address the stress and anxiety that often accompany personal transitions and the external challenges we face. Together\, we’ll explore strategies to recognize and reduce these feelings\, learning techniques for greater peace of mind. \n\n\n\nEach session will include a period of silent meditation with gentle guidance\, followed by time to share your experience with fellow participants. \n\n\n\nWe have one more session ahead—see the details below\, and join us as we continue this journey together! \n\n\n\n**Note: We recognize this falls on Mother’s Day\, and we’re open to adjusting the schedule based on feedback. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Your Hosts\n\n\n\nLisa Stein is a recent addition to the UU Wausau community\, having returned to Wausau in early 2023 after living in Madison for 34 years. She is grateful to have been welcomed by a fellow member and now attends with her son and his family\, who are also new to the area. Lisa is a retired educator with a background in bringing mindfulness meditation and wellness practices to teachers\, students\, and school communities. She currently teaches a program called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). \n\n\n\nJeanine Knapp moved to Wausau in 2020 and quickly became an active participant at UU Wausau\, engaging in Soul Matters\, social justice initiatives\, and Drum Club. Jeanine has practiced meditation on and off since 2010\, and she studies in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh.
