Weddings
Your wedding is a celebration of the love, joy, and faith you have found in each other. Whether you choose to have a large formal ceremony, or a small private one, it is a special time for you are proclaiming the covenantal bond uniting you. The First Universalist Unitarian Church is pleased to welcome you on your special day.
The congregation was gathered in 1870. The church, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was designed by Alexander C. Eschweiler in a Tudor Revival style and built in 1914. The sanctuary seats approximately 250 people (Note: there is no air conditioning). The Atrium is a light-filled space in the center of the church, with stone walls and a glass ceiling, which is air conditioned, and seats about 60 people.
STEPS TO RESERVE A DATE
Call the Church Administrator to check the availability of the facilities. If the facility is available, the next step is to check with the Minister for his availability and to set up an appointment for the couple to meet together with the Minister, who will then confirm whether or not he is willing and available to perform the ceremony. Please read this letter from the minister for information on planning your wedding. Immediately after confirming the date with the Minister, you should reserve the date with our administrator and music director and make arrangements regarding your preferences. Music Director Margaret Jerz has right of first refusal for all services at First Universalist Unitarian; email her at margaretjerz1@gmail.com to make arrangements. (Should Ms. Jerz not be available on your chosen date, please contact the Church Administrator for a list of approved alternatives.)
FEES
The Church Administrator can provide a schedule of fees for the minister, musician, and facility. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the minister’s participation and facility reservation, with the balance due prior to the wedding rehearsal. The musician’s fee is payable in full before or on the day of the wedding rehearsal. A $200 security deposit is required for use of the facility, which will be refunded within a week of the ceremony if there is no damage to the building or grounds.
FORMAT OF THE CEREMONY
The format of the ceremony (readings, music, etc.) is flexible and should be discussed with the Minister. You are welcome to have one or two friends offer readings. You may also provide additional vocal and/or instrumental music and should discuss with the Minister your selections and when during the service the music will be performed. No flash photographs, or photographers wandering around, are permitted during the ceremony itself. Florists need to call the office to determine when the building will be open for delivery.
Wedding licenses should be delivered to the Minister prior to the wedding itself.
