Advent II: Probably wasn’t that Silent of a Night – The Rev. Brian Mason
I have an abiding love for the song “Silent Night.” You know how it goes, “Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright, ‘round yon virgin Mother and Child.” There is a tender sweetness that reminds me of watching a newborn sleep, swaddled in a bassinet. I like to imagine Mary and Joseph when I sing “Silent Night.” As the story goes, their child was an absolute miracle. I’m not aware of anyone experiencing anything quite like they did. But that doesn’t mean their story can’t teach us something. By my lights, it’s a story about living with wild faith. It’s about keeping your heart open to hidden possibilities, miracles even. So, let us gather in this season of miracles to consider, well, miracles.
