“Growing Faith Community Garden” was founded by the Downtown Wausau churches in 2015.
food that is healthy people and the earth, interfaith connections, the joy of service and hope.
Growing Faith Community Garden has been a successful leap of faith! In our first year, many volunteers helped us begin to make the garden a reality. Our team plowed the ground, tested soil, submitted a project proposal to the city, hauled compost, donated seeds, and wrote a grant for a deer fence. We picked up plants from several generous donors, planted, and re-planted, weeded, watered, cleaned out the greenhouse on the property and started harvesting produce for Neighbor’s Place. We grew and donated 700 pounds of organic food (though we are not licensed as organic producers)
Our bounty includes several hundred pounds of beans, potatoes, cucumbers, kale, kohlrabi, cabbage, onions, and tomatoes, apples and pears. If you are interested in being a part of the garden contact Laurie@uuwausau.org. Watch here for meeting times and dates and for volunteer opportunities once we start the growing season.
